Russia's Severstal to buy British wire firm
Russian steel producer Severstal said on Friday it planned to acquire British-based wire producer Carrington Wire Ltd.
"The Severstal Group is currently in talks on possible acquisition of Carrington Wire... in line with the strategy of Severstal-Metiz aimed at increasing wire products output," said a spokesman for Severstal's wire products unit.
He added that Severstal was also in talks with other foreign producers of wire products on possible acquisition of their businesses but declined to give the names.
Carrington is an international wire company, supplying over 50 countries worldwide. It has a capacity to produce over 200,000 tonnes of wire a year.
Severstal produced 9.8 million tonnes of rolled steel last year with Severstal-Metiz production reaching 825,410 tonnes of wire products, of which 200,000 tonnes were exported.
