Severstal Metiz nearly doubles Ebitda through focus on value-added
Russian steel and wire products company Severstal Metiz almost doubled Ebitda year-on-year for 2007, the company said in a statement. Ebitda at Severstal Metiz for 2007 was reported at just over $87 million, up from around $49 million in 2006.
"The strategy is aimed at the reduction in sales of low margin products to the European and CIS markets," said group CEO Olga Naumova. "The increase of share of high value added products within the product portfolio, reduction of costs and modernization of its production, optimization of the infrastructure, improvement of quality, and development of the service for its clients."
Severstal Metiz has forecasted that the Russian market for its products will grow by 5-6% in 2008.
The company expects sales within the Russian Federation this year at 680-690 thousand tons and a slight reduction in Ukrainian sales to 70,000 tons due to a concentration on higher quality products. Forecasted sales volume for the rest of the CIS is 43,000 tons.
Severstal-Metiz is in the process of bringing together its European sales and marketing operation under one umbrella.
